Schultz, 24, appeared in 73 games for the Caps last season, registering three goals and 23 points while leading the NHL with a plus-50 rating. He picked up one assist in seven playoff games as the Presidents' Trophy winners were upset by Montreal in the first round.
Schultz has nine goals and 56 points in 247 career games with the Capitals, who selected the Alberta native 27th overall in the 2004 draft.
