05/27/2010 - Denver, CO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - World Golf Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer fired a six-under 66 Thursday to join Robin Freeman in the lead after the opening round of the Senior PGA Championship.
Langer, who has topped the Champions Tour money list the last two years, collected his ninth and 10th Champions Tour wins earlier this season. Freeman hasn't won anywhere since 1998, when he collected two titles on the Nationwide Tour.
Tom Lehman got within one of the lead as he went birdie-eagle-birdie from the 15th, but he bogeyed the last to shoot 68. He was joined in third place at minus-four by Brad Bryant, the 2007 U.S. Senior Open champion.
Fred Couples, who has already won three times on the Champions Tour this season, posted a three-under 69 at Colorado Golf Club. He was joined in fifth place by Tom Kite, Bill Glasson and Bill Loeffler.
Langer played the back nine first on Thursday and posted his first birdie on the 11th. He made it two in a row as he birdied the l2th from inside six feet.
The two-time Masters champion holed a wedge shot from 92 yards out on 14 to jump to four-under. He followed with a birdie on the par-five 15th, where he got up and down from just short of the green, to move to minus-five.
Langer found a fairway bunker off the tee at the 18th, his ninth, and played a seven-iron out of the bunker. He came up short with that shot and was unable to save par.
Around the turn, Langer erased that mistake with a 15-footer for birdie on the par-five first. He faltered to another bogey on the par-four fifth to dip back to minus-four.
Langer two-putted for birdie on the par-five seventh and made it two straight with a kick-in birdie on the eighth. That gave him a share of the lead and he ended alongside Freeman after a par at the last.
"I was very happy with my putting. I putted better than I had been the last few weeks and I was pretty pleased," Langer admitted. "I had good pace all day long. I had about two other putts that looked like they could have gone in, but just stayed on the lip, so I was pretty pleased with my stroke today."
Freeman also started on the back nine and got going with a 25-foot birdie putt on the 10th. After tripping to a bogey on the 13th, Freeman responded with a 12-foot birdie putt on 14.
The 51-year-old made a six-footer for birdie on 15 and converted his third straight birdie on the 16th, where he sank a 16-foot birdie putt.
Freeman parred three straight around the turn then poured in a 15-footer for birdie on two. He moved to five-under with a birdie on the par-three sixth and closed his round with a 30-foot birdie effort at the ninth.
"I got off to a good start. I made about a 25-footer on 10 and that kind of got me off," said Freeman. "That was probably the best putting round I had in maybe, ever. It was great."
Nick Price carded a two-under 70 and he shares ninth place with Chien Soon Lu and Dan Forsman.
NOTES: Defending champion Michael Allen shot one-under 71 and he is tied for 12th...Course-designer Ben Crenshaw managed an even-par 72...Jay Haas, who has won this title twice, shares 29th at plus-one...Four-time champion Hale Irwin shares 71st at plus-four...Paul Azinger, Peter Jacobsen and Hal Sutton were among several players that withdrew at prior to the start of the round, while Rod Spittle withdrew after carding a 74.

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.
Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.
Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
