02/24/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - A pair of last-place clubs clash this evening in Los Angeles, as the Kings welcome the Colorado Avalanche to the Staples Center.
The Kings are last in the Western Conference with 50 points, while Colorado, which plays in the extremely-competitive Northwest Division, is still in the playoff hunt. The Avs have 62 points on the year and are nine behind division rival Calgary for the eighth and final postseason berth in the West.
Colorado had a home test against Minnesota on Thursday and the Wild walked away with the close win. Todd White posted a goal and an assist and Wyatt Smith ended a 92-game scoreless drought as the Wild held on to beat Colorado, 4-3.
Ken Klee, Brad Richardson and Marek Svatos each scored in the third period and Peter Budaj ended with 19 saves for the Avalanche, who have dropped three of four.
Paul Stastny finished with two assists and now has seven goals and eight helpers during a 10-game scoring streak, which is a new club mark for rookies since the team moved to Denver.
Joe Sakic, the Avs' 37-year-old captain, also comes into tonight's game with a 10-game point streak intact. Sakic, who scored the 600th goal of his career back on February 15, has five goals and 13 assists during his current tear.
Starting tonight, the Avalanche are playing seven of their next games on the road. Colorado, which is 12-14-1 as the visitor this year, will play its only home test during the run Tuesday evening against Columbus.
Meanwhile, the Kings are coming off Thursday's home setback to Vancouver. Kevin Bieksa scored the game-winning goal with 3:56 left in the third to lead the Canucks past the Kings, 3-2.
John Zeiler and Lubomir Visnovsky scored for the Kings, who have dropped three of their last five contests. Mathieu Garon surrendered three goals on 30 shots faced for Los Angeles.
The Kings, who are 11-13-8 as the host this year, are playing the second segment of a four-game homestand tonight. They have dropped seven straight games (0-4-3) at the Staples Center.
Los Angeles has won two of three meetings with Colorado this year and five of the last seven encounters overall.
